On September 6, 2019, the Kenyan government deported Ali Oumarou, the proprietor of the Kiza Lounge and Restaurant, following intelligence reports that he was a leader of an international criminal gang.
Mr. Oumarou, a Niger national who arrived in Kenya in 2014, co-owns the Kiza Lounge and Restaurant, which has branches in Canada, Nigeria, and Dubai.
The Interior Ministry stated that Mr. Oumarou's work permit had expired and that he was part of an international criminal gang, according to Wangui Muchiri, the ministry's spokesman.
However, Mr. Oumarou denied the allegations, stating that he was abroad for diplomatic training and that the rumors were unfounded.
The Kiza Lounge, located in the Kilimani area of Nairobi, is a popular night club and restaurant that attracts high-end revellers and local and international artistes.
