Residents of Juja Farm in Kiambu County have been living in fear following a series of armed night robberies in the area over the past month. The situation came to a head last week when an armed gang broke into several houses, stole property, and raped four women.

Police have since banned boda boda transport from 9pm in an effort to curb the rising insecurity. According to Juja Deputy County Commissioner Charles Mureithi, they have information that boda bodas have been used to ferry gangs to targeted households where they rob.

‘From 10pm, all residents should be in their houses. This will ease the fight against crime as we shall be sure that those on our roads are criminals,’ Mureithi said.

Police surveillance and patrols have been enhanced to flush out criminals, and anyone found outdoors from 10pm will be arrested. Six suspects have been arrested in connection to the robbery and rape incident and are being detained at the Juja police station.

The Deputy County Commissioner called for the strengthening of community policing, adding that more clusters will be developed to identify strangers.
