On September 6, 2019, thieves stole Kshs 72 million from an ATM belonging to Standard Chartered Bank in Nairobi West.

According to reports, the thieves posed as police officers and intercepted a G4S cash-in-transit van transporting money from the bank's headquarters on Witu Road in South B to the Nairobi West branch.

Once at the ATM, the thieves demanded the bank's passwords and withdrew more cash before bundling the money into a Toyota Noah vehicle and escaping.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched an investigation into the matter, which was reported at the Langata police station through OB number 2/5/2019.
