Tragic End to 21-Year Relationship

On August 17, Doris Wako married Bernard Levy Mwato, the love of her life, after 21 years of dating.

Just two weeks later, on August 31, Mwato's life was cut short, leaving Wako a widow at the age of 38.

According to sources, Mwato had visited his uncle's home in Funyula to collect a wedding gift when he collapsed and was rushed to Busia County Referral Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Wako, an Administration Police officer based in Busia Town, was left to mourn the untimely death of her 40-year-old husband.

Friends and family expressed shock and grief on Wako's Facebook page, with many offering condolences and words of comfort.

"Rest in peace my love, till we meet again," Wako posted on her Facebook page alongside one of their wedding photos.

Wako's kindness and generosity towards street children had made her wedding a memorable occasion, with many guests in attendance.

Busia Woman Representative Florence Mutua praised Wako for her kindness, saying she was among 21 women honoured in March for their role in helping the less privileged in society.

A post-mortem is being conducted to determine the cause of Mwato's death, although a heart attack is suspected.
