On Thursday, a fuel tanker burst into flames in Rwika village, Mbeere, Embu County, sending residents into a state of panic.

The tanker, which was emptying fuel at a local petrol station, suddenly caught fire, prompting the driver, Mr. James Mugo, to take swift action.

Mr. Mugo drove the tanker to a nearby forest to avoid a disaster, where he jumped out of the vehicle just in time.

As the fire consumed the tanker, residents fled in different directions to avoid being hurt.

Fortunately, the Embu County rescue team arrived on the scene and was able to put out the inferno.

According to eyewitnesses, the tanker was carrying 8,000 litres of fuel, which could have led to a devastating disaster had the driver not acted quickly.

Area police boss Ahmed Mohammed confirmed that investigations have commenced to determine the cause of the fire.
