Published on September 6, 2019, Embu Level Five Hospital was hit by a major setback after a brain surgery machine worth Sh500,000 went missing.

The theft, which occurred last week, has left medics struggling to carry out their duties effectively.

Embu County Police Commander Daniel Rukunga confirmed that two nurses have been arrested in connection with the theft and are being held at the Embu West Police Station.

"The suspects are being held at the Embu West Police Station over the missing brain surgery equipment," he told the Nation.

Already, nine witnesses have recorded statements with the police, and investigations are ongoing.

Notably, the hospital had recently been praised for its brain surgery centre, with Governor Martin Wambora saying it was the best in the Mount Kenya region.

He had also encouraged residents to seek medical services locally, citing the hospital's well-equipped facilities.
