The National Elections Board (NEB) of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has finalized preparations for the Kibra constituency nomination exercise, scheduled for this Saturday.

Speaking at a consultative meeting with aspirants at a Nairobi hotel on Thursday, Board Chairperson Senator Judith Pareno assured that the exercise will be free, fair, and transparent.

Ms Pareno stated that the board held consultations with the county security team, which assured them of maximum security during the nominations exercise.

"We met with the County Commander of Police yesterday and requested security personnel for the exercise," Ms Pareno said. "They assured us that they will provide two police officers per polling station and additional officers to patrol the entire constituency during the exercise."

The nomination exercise will be held in 24 centres, comprising 180 polling stations, gazetted by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Ms Pareno outlined the rules for the exercise, stating that every polling station will have a Presiding Officer and two clerks, and that party members will be required to carry their national Identification Cards to participate.

Results will be counted at the polling station before being relayed to the tallying center for the final announcement and declaration of the winner.

Ms Pareno warned that action will be taken against any candidate who violates the nominations rules, including causing violence or disturbance during the exercise.

The Dispute Resolution Tribunal, comprising three members, has been set up to deal with any disputes arising from the exercise.

The meeting was attended by ODM Chairman for Nairobi County, George Aladwa, and several legislators, including Anthony Oluoch and Tom Kajwang'. The IEBC has declared November 7th as the date for the Kibra Constituency by-election.

The seat fell vacant following the death of former member of parliament Ken Okoth, who died of colorectal cancer.
