Published on September 6, 2019, the selection of McDonald Mariga as Jubilee Party's candidate for the Kibra by-election has been met with criticism from within the party.
Cherangany MP Joshua Kutuny has expressed his disappointment with the party's decision, stating that he expected a more democratic process to be followed.
"Politics doesn't know a household name, we need to go back to the drawing table and put our house in order," Kutuny said.
He is not alone in his opposition, as nominated MP Maina Kamanda and Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria have also expressed their disapproval of Mariga's selection.
One of the aspirants, Morris Peter Kinyanjui, has even gone as far as to appeal the decision, stating that it was done in secrecy and contrary to party rules.
"The selection of Mariga was not only unfair, deceptive and shrouded in secrecy, but also contrary to the provisions of Jubilee Party's constitution," Kinyanjui said.
Other aspirants, including Ibrahim Said, Jack Owino, Ramadhan Daniel Orongo, Hussein, Frank Amollo, Geoffrey Mwangi, and Elly Omondi, have also expressed their disappointment with the nomination process.
They have vowed to submit their grievances to the Party Dispute Tribunal and have called for the nomination to be halted and recalled.
