Twin sisters Mary Wangari Mburu and Jane Mukami died in a hit-and-run collision on June 2, 2022, in Gathanji village, Githingiri, Kiambu County. The sisters, married to twin brothers, were members of the Woman's Guild-PCEA Geoffrey Gathu Memorial Church and were returning from a fellowship event when the accident occurred.

June Waweru, then-running mate for Kiambu Governor James Nyoro, expressed condolences at the funeral, stating, "They were till their time of demise dedicated PCEA Women's Guild members.
