The Golden State Warriors have matched the Chicago Bulls' historic Finals dominance, reaching the NBA Finals six times in eight seasons under head coach Steve Kerr. This feat echoes the Bulls' 1991-98 dynasty, during which Kerr played on three championship teams as a player.
Kerr's coaching success includes three titles during the Warriors' five consecutive Finals appearances from 2015-19. The 2017 and 2018 seasons marked back-to-back championships, solidifying his legacy as a strategic architect. However, the franchise faced setbacks including Klay Thompson's 2019 knee injury and Kevin Durant's 2019 departure, compounded by Stephen Curry's 2020 foot injury that contributed to the team's worst regular-season record in 2019-20.
Thompson's return in 2021 was derailed by an Achilles tear, while Curry missed 18 games in 2022 due to a foot injury. Draymond Green also struggled with back issues, playing just 46 games. Despite these challenges, the Warriors posted the third-best league record, with Kerr crediting emerging players like Andrew Wiggins and Jordan Poole for the team's resilience.
"We literally never got our main guys on the floor at the same time until game one of the Denver series," Kerr acknowledged. "But I feel good about the process and our potential if we could get all of our key guys on the floor." Thompson praised Kerr's leadership, calling him "an incredible visionary" who balances basketball acumen with social advocacy.
