Makueni County officials appeared in court on Tuesday facing allegations of misappropriating public funds for a 2014 trip to Dubai, which was reportedly sponsored by Kibwezi West MP Patrick Musimba.
Timothy Maneno, former Makindu MCA Bernard Musau, Nguumo MCA John Mwenze, Emali/Mulala MCA Cosmas Mutunga, Kikumbulyu North MCA Bensley Mathuku, and Kikumbulyu South MCA Bernard Kiswii denied receiving Sh175,000 each from county funds during their court appearance before Principal Magistrate James Mwaniki.
Mwaniki granted each defendant Sh150,000 cash bail or a Sh300,000 bond, with cases scheduled for mention on June 14. Edward Libendi, former county assembly clerk charged with facilitating payments, failed to appear and was ordered to attend court on June 7.
