The National Police Service (NPS) has issued a traffic advisory ahead of Madaraka Day celebrations at Uhuru Gardens on June 1, 2022, warning of potential road disruptions. The statement, dated May 30, 2022, emphasized temporary traffic management measures for roads leading to the event venue.
Police spokesperson Bruno Shioso confirmed that traffic on key routes—including the Southern Bypass, Langata Road, and Raila Odinga Way—would be managed on a need basis. Officers from the Nairobi traffic management department will oversee flow control during the national celebrations.
Motorists were urged to comply with traffic regulations, with strict enforcement against violations. Special parking arrangements were detailed, including designated zones for vehicles with event passes. Red-sticker vehicles would access Uhuru Gardens through Gate 3, while others would be directed to Uchumi Supermarket, Carnivore Grounds, and Ulinzi Sports Complex.
VIP vehicles parked at Uchumi Supermarket, Carnivore, and Ulinzi Sports Complex would be prioritized for departure after the event. Earlier preparations included a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) air show on May 28, 2022, featuring aerial drills attended by President Uhuru Kenyatta and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali.
