An Interior Ministry employee has demanded an apology from Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti after the agency allegedly associated his wife with a drink-spiking operation. The employee, speaking to media on May 30, 2022, described waking up in a hospital with his wife missing and later learning she had been detained for allegedly spiking his drink.
The employee recounted taking his wife to an entertainment venue despite feeling unwell, consuming multiple alcoholic drinks before collapsing. "I take alcohol. My wife does not. I was determined to take her out, but after several bottles, I felt weak and asked her to drive me to the hospital," he said. Upon regaining consciousness, he found himself alone in the facility.
He later filed a report at Murang'a Police Station, where officials confirmed his wife was not a suspect in any crime. Murang'a South Police Chief Alexander Shikondi stated the woman was released after explaining she had taken his belongings for safekeeping. "There is no police action required," he told reporters.
The DCI had previously accused the employee's wife of being part of a syndicate that spiked drinks to steal victims' belongings. The agency's statement described her as the "daughter of Jezebel" who allegedly targeted ATM cards and identification documents. This follows the DCI's recent crackdown on women involved in drink-fueled thefts.
