Facebook has unveiled its dating service in the US, marking a significant expansion of its social media platform. The service, which was first announced in September 2019, allows users to integrate their Instagram posts directly into their Facebook Dating profile, giving them a more authentic look at who someone is.

“Facebook Dating makes it easier to find love through what you like — helping you start meaningful relationships through things you have in common, like interests, events and groups,” said Nathan Sharp, Product Manager, Facebook Dating in a blog post published on September 6, 2019.

According to Sharp, Facebook Dating is designed to be safe, inclusive, and opt-in. The service includes features such as the ability to report and block anyone, prohibiting people from sending photos, links, payments or videos in messages, and providing easy access to safety tips.

Users can now choose to opt into Facebook Dating and create a Dating profile (separate from their main profile) if they’re 18 years or older and have downloaded the most recent version of Facebook. They will be suggested to others who have also opted in, based on their preferences, interests, and other things they do on Facebook.

Facebook Dating also allows users to match with friends of friends and/or people not in their friend circle. The service won’t match users with friends, unless they choose to use Secret Crush and both add each other to their list.

Facebook Dating is currently available in 19 other countries, including Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Columbia, Ecuador, Guyana, Laos, Malaysia, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, the Philippines, Singapore, Suriname, Thailand, Uruguay, and Vietnam. It will be available in Europe by early 2020.
