Egyptian football giants Al Ahly are set to challenge Wydad Casablanca in the African Champions League final on May 9, seeking an unprecedented third consecutive title. The match will take place at Casablanca's Mohamed V Stadium, a venue chosen by the Confederation of African Football after Senegal withdrew its bid to host.
Al Ahly's attempt to relocate the game to neutral territory was denied by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, forcing the team to prepare for a high-stakes encounter in a hostile environment. The Egyptian club, which won the tournament in 2020 and 2021, has never achieved three straight victories in the competition's history.
Coach Pitso Mosimane emphasized his team's determination, stating, "We will fight to win the Champions League. We played in the absence of important international players before under great pressure, and we are used to it." A victory would make Mosimane the second manager to claim the trophy four times.
Wydad Casablanca, appearing in their third final in six years, enter the match as the top scorers of the competition. The Moroccan side defeated Al Ahly in the 2017 final but controversially abandoned the 2019 showdown against Esperance over a VAR dispute, raising questions about their approach to critical matches.
