The second edition of the Hip-Hop Asili Festival will be held on June 4 in Dar es Salaam, showcasing rappers, beatboxers, dancers, and emcees. The competition aims to elevate local artistic talent through performance and cultural exchange.
Sponsored by the French Embassy and Alliance Francaise of Tanzania, the festival continues a partnership that began with its inaugural edition in June 2021. Cecile Frobert, head of development co-operation and cultural arts at the French Embassy, emphasized the event's dual role in entertainment and education.
"Artists convey messages that empower women and address gender-based violence," Frobert stated. "France has a long tradition of supporting cultural work, exemplified by figures like Claude Monet, who helped shape global artistic heritage."
This year's event will take place at the Temeke CCM from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Admission is free, inviting broad community participation in the celebration of hip-hop culture.
