Kenyan political parties have initiated campaign activities ahead of the August 9 general election, despite allegations of irregularities and financial strain on citizens. The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officially began overseeing campaign operations on August 9, with the period set to conclude 48 hours before the vote, on August 7.

Several candidates have been accused of bypassing IEBC regulations by conducting public events without proper authorization. According to the Constitution and Election Act (2016), official campaigns must adhere to IEBC guidelines. However, some campaigns have proceeded without following these procedures, raising concerns about compliance.

Reports indicate that campaign events have drawn large crowds, with participants receiving cash incentives of Sh500 to attend. This practice has been criticized as a potential violation of campaign finance laws. Similar tactics have been observed in other sectors, including education and healthcare, where officials have been accused of using public resources for political gain.

Campaigns have also been linked to broader economic challenges facing Kenyan citizens. Many families struggle to afford basic necessities, with some parents unable to send their children to school. Others rely on campaign events for temporary financial relief, highlighting the intersection of politics and daily survival.

Political leaders have faced pressure to address these issues, with calls for transparency and accountability. Critics argue that the current campaign environment exacerbates existing inequalities, as resources are diverted to political activities rather than public welfare.
