Rwandan middle-distance athlete Adeline Musabyeyezu claimed gold in the women's half marathon at the 2022 Kigali International Peace Marathon, finishing with a time of 1 hour 14 minutes 9 seconds. She edged out Burundian competitor Elevanie Nimbona by 11 seconds, with Kenyan runner Doris Jepkoech securing bronze.

The 17th edition of the World Athletics-certified event featured high-profile participants including Rwandan First Lady Jeannette Kagame and Kenyan First Lady Margaret Kenyatta, who joined the Run for Peace category. British long-distance athlete Mo Farah attended as a special guest.

Musabyeyezu, 25, credited her team's support for her victory, noting she aimed to win gold after finishing second in 2021. The APR Athletics runner became one of only two Rwandan athletes to reach the podium in the race.

Rwandan veteran Robert Kajuga, 37, earned bronze in the men's half marathon after a five-year suspension from World Athletics competitions. The ban, imposed in 2016 for failing an out-of-competition drug test, ended in 2021. Kajuga, competing under Mountain Club Kajuga, highlighted his focus on future achievements following his return to the track. His 2012 bronze in the same event marked his first podium finish in a decade.

Kenyans dominated full marathon categories. In the men's race, Wilfred Kigen won gold with a time of 2 hours 16 minutes 36 seconds, while Johnstone Kibet Maiyo and George Nyamori Onyancha took silver and bronze. Kenyan runner Margaret Agai claimed women's full marathon gold with a time of 2 hours 35 minutes 23 seconds.
