The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance has warned it may remove Philip Kaloki from its Nairobi gubernatorial ticket if Kalonzo Musyoka proceeds with an independent presidential bid, according to campaign officials.
Tim Wanyonyi, Azimio Nairobi County Campaign Chairman, stated the coalition would not endorse a running mate from a rival political faction. 'If Kalonzo decides to run as he has threatened, we will have no choice but to replace Kaloki,' Wanyonyi said. He emphasized that Martha Karua's leadership has strengthened the alliance's campaign efforts, countering claims that Azimio relies on Musyoka's support.
Potential replacements for Kaloki include former Kasarani MP Elizabeth Ongoro and ex-Nairobi town clerk Philip Kisia, sources indicated. Meanwhile, Musyoka's campaign team confirmed he is proceeding with presidential registration.
IEBC documents show Musyoka's team submitted candidate support lists in Excel format as required. National Elections Board (NEB) chair Agatha Solitei stated the paperwork was completed on May 25, 2022, with soft copies submitted by May 28, 2022—within the May 29 deadline. 'We have fully complied with IEBC regulations,' Solitei said, assuring supporters that Musyoka remains in the presidential race.
