Police in Kilifi have detained two individuals in connection with the death of a 30-year-old man at the Lexo Lounge nightclub during the UEFA Champions League final between Real Madrid and Liverpool, which ended 1-0 in favor of Real Madrid.
The victim, Feisal Bushuti Mkongo, died following a confrontation with bouncers at the venue. According to a relative, the dispute began when the deceased argued with a cashier over change after paying an entrance fee. The cashier reportedly summoned security personnel, who allegedly assaulted Mkongo until he succumbed to his injuries.
Kilifi North Sub County police commander Jonathan Koech confirmed the arrest of the club manager and one bouncer, stating that a commotion involving stone-throwing and broken bottles had occurred. He noted that the incident led to public complaints about the establishment's operations.
Mkongo's family claimed he sustained internal injuries without visible wounds. His relative David Mwazele reported that the death triggered protests, including tire-burning on the Kilifi-Mombasa highway, which prompted police to use tear gas to disperse crowds.
A second relative, Anne Kuto, condemned the killing and highlighted that Mkongo was the primary breadwinner for his wife and two young children. His mother resides in Saudi Arabia, according to the statement.
