A video circulating online has sparked outrage after allegedly showing racial segregation at Nairobi's Alchemist club, where bouncers reportedly directed Black Kenyans to a separate queue from white and Indian patrons.
The footage, shared by a partygoer, captures a Black man in a white t-shirt attempting to join a line reserved for non-Black customers. A bouncer immediately signaled him to return to the main queue, prompting disbelief from onlookers. "Are they going to let him through that side just because he has an accent?" one observer questioned, while another remarked, "They have actually sent him back."
The incident occurred on May 29, with the videographer threatening to expose the club on social media. "This is racist and I am going to record it and post it on Twitter tomorrow. There is a white person's line and a black people line," the individual declared.
A club representative told Kenyans.co.ke that the matter was under investigation, stating, "We do not entertain racism." The statement followed a 2018 incident where the club apologized after similar allegations, with bouncers reportedly using racist language toward patrons. At that time, the establishment dismissed security staff and pledged to reinforce inclusivity policies.
The video remains available on YouTube, continuing to draw public scrutiny over the club's practices.
