On September 6, 2019, a court case involving the late Kibra MP Ken Okoth's family came to a close after DNA tests confirmed that he fathered a son with Nairobi Ward Rep Anne Thumbi.

According to documents filed at Milimani courts, the DNA tests were conducted in three local and international hospitals and showed a 99.99% match, confirming that Okoth was the biological father of Thumbi's five-year-old son.

Thumbi, a nominated Ward Rep in Nairobi County, had gone to court to have her child recognised as Okoth's biological son before his funeral. She had sued the MP's mother Angeline Okoth, his wife Monica Okoth, and Lee Funeral Home.

Lawyers Danstan Omari and Elkana Mogaka stated that the DNA sampling and testing were done under the strict guidelines of the law and a tight chain of custody from collection, transportation, storage, and testing.
