The National Examination Council (Knec) has introduced an SMS-based system for 2022 exam candidates to verify registration details ahead of national assessments. Learners can send messages to 20076 using the format (exam)(index number), such as KCPE36611030002, to confirm their eligibility for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
Grade Six students will take the KPSEA from November 28, while Standard Eight candidates sit the KCPE in November. Form Four learners face the KCSE from November to January. Knec completed candidate registration a week prior and published the exam timetable, with Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha confirming all assessments are ready for administration.
Standard Eight learners can now revise school preferences through their teachers via Knec’s online portal. These choices guide secondary school placements based on KCPE results. The council also urged parents to purchase 2020 KCPE and KCSE past papers from its bookshop at the National Housing Corporation for exam preparation.
This year’s exams occur under the revised academic calendar, with normal operations resuming in January 2023. The 8-4-4 system will phase out, replacing Standard Seven with the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC). Grade Six students will be assessed on cumulative scores from Grades 4, 5, and 6, with 40 marks required in the final KPSEA. Over 1.25 million learners are expected to join Grade Seven under the new system.
