Kenya Commercial Bank’s women’s volleyball team advanced to the semi-finals of the Africa Women’s Volleyball Club Championship after defeating five-time champions Kenya Prisons in three straight sets during the quarterfinals in Tunisia.
The victory, achieved with scores of 25-17, 25-14, and 25-14, eliminated the reigning champions and positioned KCB as a strong contender for the title. The team’s performance in the tournament began on May 19, with consistent results including a second-place finish in Pool B.
Head coach Japheth Munala expressed confidence in his team’s ability to compete at the highest level. "We are aware of the quality of the side we face in the semi-finals, so we will maintain our focus and desire to win," he said. "This would be a significant achievement for us, as it has been a while since we last won this trophy."
Middle blocker Mercy Moim credited the team’s collective effort and coaching staff for their success. "Every player has contributed to our progress, and we are eager to face the next challenge," she said. KCB currently leads the Kenyan Volleyball League, with Kenya Prisons in second place after five rounds.
