Published on September 6, 2019, Athletics head coach Julius Kirwa has announced plans to relocate the team's training camp from Nairobi to a warmer area in preparation for the 2019 World Championships in Doha, Qatar.

The decision comes as a response to the extreme heat conditions expected in Doha, where temperatures can rise above 45 degrees Celsius, a significant increase from Nairobi's current climate.

Coach Kirwa believes that training in hot and humid areas like Kajiado and the Athi River will help the athletes acclimatize to the conditions they will face in Doha.

“We may need to train in hot and humid areas like Kajiado and the Athi River around midday to compete well in Doha,” Kirwa said.

The World Championships, originally scheduled for August, has been pushed back to October to ensure that athletes can perform in the extreme heat.
