Published on September 6, 2019, the 2019 IAAF Diamond League has reached its climax with the AG Memorial van Damme meeting in Brussels, Belgium, set to take place today.

World champion Hellen Obiri and Timothy Cheruiyot will be targeting a third consecutive Diamond League title in the 5000m and 1500m respectively.

However, Obiri faces stiff competition from European champion Sifan Hassan, who broke the world mile record earlier this year, and fellow countrywomen Beatrice Chepkoech, the world record-holder in steeplechase.

Agnes Tirop, who beat Obiri over 5000m in Stockholm and over 10,000m at the Kenyan Championships, is also a strong contender.

Cheruiyot has won all of his races across all distances this year, with his world-leading 3:28.77 run in Lausanne and 3:29.97 victory in Monaco underlining his dominance in the 1500m.

World 1500m champion Elijah Manangoi will miss out after sustaining an ankle injury in training.

Conseslus Kipruto, the world and Olympic champion in the steeplechase, is not in the same form as last year, but still looks like a strong contender in the event.

Top sprinters Fred Kerley and Michael Norman are also set to compete in Brussels, with Norman hoping to arrive in good form after a recent break from competition.

Meanwhile, multiple world and Olympic gold medallist Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce has looked untouchable in the 100m this year.
