On October 20, 2018, the Safaricom Madoka Half Marathon will return to Ngerenyi Farmers Training Centre in Taita Taveta County, two weeks earlier than initially planned.
Defending champions Daniel Muindi and Devlin Meringor are expected to battle it out on the energy-sapping course. Muindi, from Machakos Athletics Club, won the 21km men's race in 1:01:06.6, beating George Njoroge into second place. Meringor, from Rift Valley, timed 1:11:16.1 to take the women's crown.
Athletics Kenya deputy treasurer Kimoni Kisalu confirmed that preparations are in top gear. "We have been having meetings with the Local Organising Committee and arrangements are going on well," he said. The official launch will be held at Riadha House, Nairobi, on Wednesday, with event's patron Marsden Madoka and Athletics Kenya officials in attendance.
Madoka also hinted at new sponsors, saying, "We shall announce our other sponsors next week." The current sponsors include Safaricom, Brookeside Diary, Kenya Revenue Authority, Kenya Ports Authority, and the Taita Taveta County.
