According to a report by Childline Kenya, Nairobi has emerged as the county with the highest rates of child abuse in the country.

Published on September 5, 2019, the report indicates that Nairobi had 52 victims of child abuse in 2018, surpassing other counties such as Kiambu and Bungoma, which recorded 23 and 19 cases respectively.

Other forms of child abuse reported to be rampant in the three counties include abduction, early forced marriages, and physical assault.

Alarmingly, the report reveals that a total of 2,835 cases of child abuse were reported in 2017 and 2018, with perpetrators aged between 10 and 35 years.

Childline Kenya's report identifies several factors contributing to the high rates of child abuse, including inadequate parenting skills, poor preparation for parenting responsibilities, involvement in drug and substance abuse, and lack of employment leading to bitterness and feelings of inadequacy.
