Published on September 5, 2019, as Hurricane Dorian made landfall in the Bahamas, the storm's full fury was unleashed on the island nation, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.
According to Bahamian Prime Minister Hubert Minnis, the areas hit by the storm faced 'generational devastation', a testament to the storm's unprecedented power.
Grand Bahama Island, which bore the brunt of the storm, was more than 60% underwater as of midday on Tuesday, with satellite images from Iceye SAR Satellite Constellation revealing the extent of the damage.
The international airport on Grand Bahama Island suffered severe damage, with runways and buildings destroyed, and smaller regional airports around the islands also affected.
Photos from the scene showed the devastating impact of the storm, with buildings and planes destroyed, and runways submerged underwater.
As of now, the hurricane has claimed seven lives in the Bahamas, and the Red Cross estimates that as many as 13,000 homes may have been severely damaged or destroyed.
