On August 1, Nairobi Governor Sonko spoke at the memorial service of late Kibra Member of Parliament Ken Okoth at Moi Girl's High School in Kibra, where he condemned the alleged exclusion of nominated Nairobi MCA Ann Thumbi and her son from funeral arrangements.

According to Sonko, the late MP had a son with Ann Thumbi, and the two love birds did not hide the fact that they shared a child. Sonko stated that Ken Okoth recognised and was there for his son, as demonstrated by pictures and documented correspondences.

However, on August 3, Ann Thumbi was left out of Mr. Okoth's private early morning cremation at Kariokor, despite a court order issued the previous day. Evans Olouch, the late Okoth's nephew, previously stated that the Kibra MP's mother and other relatives were left out in an alleged night meeting that decided on the cremation.

A DNA test has since confirmed that Ken Okoth was indeed the father of Ann Thumbi's son.
