Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp described the possibility of his team securing the Premier League title as "not likely but possible" ahead of the final gameweek. His side currently trails Manchester City by a point with one match remaining in the season.
The Reds' 2-1 victory over Southampton left them a single point behind City, who have a game in hand. To overtake the reigning champions, Liverpool must beat Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield while City fail to win against Aston Villa.
Klopp acknowledged the challenge posed by City's home fixture against Villa, managed by former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard. "It is possible, not likely but possible. That is enough," he said, referencing Liverpool's 2020 Premier League triumph and the narrow 2019 title race decided by a controversial clearance from John Stones.
"City play at home against Aston Villa, who face Burnley on Thursday. It will be tough for them," Klopp added. "But football is a tricky game. We'll give it a try. The atmosphere at Anfield will be outstanding, and we'll use it to our advantage."
