On September 5, 2019, a brazen heist took place in Nairobi, Kenya, where men posing as police officers stole Sh72 million from G4S staff who were transporting the cash to Standard Chartered Bank in Nairobi West.
The suspects, who seemed to know the planned movements of the cash, intercepted the G4S van and demanded part of the money. They then withdrew more cash from an ATM using the bank's access code.
According to the G4S personnel, they had collected the money from their headquarters and were taking it to the bank when the suspects turned out to be thugs. The men offloaded 13 bags containing Sh72 million into a waiting car and sped off, leaving the G4S personnel at the bank.
Nairobi police boss Philip Ndolo has launched investigations into the incident and will interrogate the staff involved in the movement of the cash.
