On September 5, 2019, Nigeria's former national coach Samson Siasia announced his appeal against a life ban imposed by FIFA.

Speaking in Abuja, Siasia stated that his lawyers filed the appeal with FIFA on August 27, while another appeal was filed with the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) on August 29.

He denied any involvement in illegal acts, emphasizing his commitment to integrity and hard work throughout his career.

"I have never been and would never be a party to any form of unethical conduct or perversion in the discharge of my duties," Siasia said.

He expressed gratitude to Nigerians for their support, recalling his humble beginnings in the youth league and his time playing for the Super Eagles, Nantes, and KSC Lokeren.
