On Thursday morning, a police officer was involved in a fatal shootout with his colleagues in Kawangware, Nairobi County.

The incident occurred at a bus stop in the wee hours of the morning, where the officer, Benson Indenje, had been involved in a scuffle with boda boda operators.

According to the police, the officers who were on patrol challenged Indenje to surrender, but he shot at them, injuring PC Kenneth Kimathi on the left wrist.

Indenje, who was stationed at Riruta Police Station, was rushed to Nairobi Women's Hospital at Adams Arcade but was pronounced dead on arrival.

It is alleged that the officer had threatened to shoot the boda boda operators before the incident.

He was found with a Ceska pistol, F6974, that had fired seven rounds of 9mm.

The body has been moved to Chiromo morgue awaiting autopsy, while his colleague Kimathi is undergoing treatment at Chiromo Lane Medical Centre.
