Kenyan TikTok sensation David Moya, renowned for his spontaneous street dance performances, has expanded his career beyond national borders following a surge in international demand. His unique approach of surprising strangers with choreographed routines has garnered both viral attention and financial success.
Moya, who launched his TikTok account in 2019, has built a following of 2.5 million users and 29.4 million likes. His career began professionally in 2018, initially focusing on martial arts before transitioning to dance. The 28-year-old now operates a company called Moya Surprises, which includes a dance academy offering monthly training sessions.
Recent international opportunities include scheduled performances in Nigeria and South Africa, with Moya citing increased bookings from diaspora communities. He revealed that clients have paid up to 250,000 Kenyan shillings for personalized surprise performances, including a virtual dance routine for a Nigerian client's spouse.
"It has become a proper business," Moya stated. "Nigerians are used to being romantic, which is why I'm expanding there. There was a Nigerian who paid me 250k for a surprise to their lover, and it was done virtually." He also mentioned a Dubai-based client who requested a similar service.
The dancer has begun recruiting staff for his growing enterprise, reflecting the commercialization of his street performance art. His work combines entertainment with a mission to spread joy, as evidenced by his self-proclaimed title of 'King of Street Happiness.'
