Published on September 5, 2019, a Zambian radio station, Hot FM, has taken a bold stance against xenophobic attacks in South Africa by banning South African music from its airwaves.

According to a statement posted on Facebook, Hot FM will cease to play music by South African artists until further notice.

The decision is a show of solidarity with other African nations that have been affected by the attacks.

Hot FM's statement referred to the African concept of togetherness, ubuntu, and the historical ties between Zambia and South Africa, particularly during the fight against apartheid when the African National Congress (ANC) was based in Zambia.

"Africa is one, and until such a time that our South African counterparts embrace ubuntu again, our stand will be with all our African brothers being attacked and terrorised in that country," the statement read.
