On September 5, 2019, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) launched an investigation into the awarding of a Sh357 million garbage collection tender in Nairobi County.
According to EACC, the probe focuses on claims of procurement irregularities, misappropriation of public funds, inflated payments, fraud, and conflict of interest.
Investigations revealed that some companies awarded the tender, including Hardi Enterprises and Accacia Equipment (K) Ltd, wired part of the payment to bank accounts associated with Ombok, who then sent the money to Governor Sonko's bank accounts.
As the investigation enters its final phase, EACC is set to probe Ombok this weekend.
Governor Sonko has denied any wrongdoing, stating that he was summoned as the Chief Executive of the county to shed light on the matter, and that the questions centered on concerns raised by the county Environment committee.
However, an EACC document seen by the media alleged that the companies that won the tender made payments of over Sh20 million to Governor Sonko through his bank accounts.
