After years of development, the Tor Browser is now available for download from the Google Play Store, marking the end of the road for Orfox, a mobile application that allowed users to browse safely.

First announced in 2017, the Tor Browser was initially met with excitement as a more efficient and user-friendly alternative to Orfox, which relied on another app, Orbot, to provide a Tor connection.

Released in May, the stable build of the Tor Browser has been a long time coming, with an alpha build dropping last year.

With the Tor Browser now available, the Guardian Project, which developed Orfox, has released an update directing its over 1 million active users to download and install the new app instead.

Orfox, which was released four years ago and downloaded over 14 million times, was a popular solution for accessing the Tor network on mobile devices, but its watch has now ended.

For now, the Tor Browser is only available on Android, but its release marks a significant step forward in the development of mobile privacy solutions.
