On September 3, 2019, the medical superintendent of Kyuso Level 4 hospital, Daniel Musiani, issued a notice to all workers stating that the hospital would be closed indefinitely due to security threats.

However, residents of Kyuso Sub County have disputed this claim, stating that the region is safe and that there have been no concerns of insecurity.

They believe that the decision to close the hospital is a deliberate attempt to punish them for demanding development from the County Government.

Residents are now suffering as the nearby hospitals are private and expensive for locals.

Area residents have expressed their concerns, with Nicodemus Muthengi stating that the closure caught them unaware and that the reasons given by the County Government aren’t sufficient.

Another resident, Rose Maluki, fears that Governor Charity Ngilu is punishing locals for raising concerns over the low level of development in the area compared to other parts of Kitui County.

Nominated MCA Munyoki Katonyi has also weighed in, stating that the closure of the hospital is purely political and an attempt to subject residents to torture after they criticized the County Government over development.
