On September 5, 2019, a tragic incident occurred in Kawangware, Nairobi, where a police inspector was shot dead by his colleagues.
The inspector, Benson Indenje, was reportedly drunk and armed when he got into a heated argument with a boda boda operator in the Coast area of Kawangware.
According to a police report filed at Muthangari Police Station, the officers who were on patrol were informed of Indenje's unruly behavior and that he had threatened to shoot dead one of the boda boda operators.
When the officers responded to the situation, Indenje shot at them, injuring one of the officers, Kenneth Kimathi, on the left wrist arm.
The officers then shot at Indenje, and upon examination, they found that he was a police officer who was armed with a Ceska pistol and had fired seven rounds of ammunition.
Indenje was pronounced dead on arrival at Nairobi Women Hospital, while Kimathi is undergoing treatment at the facility.
The body was moved to Chiromo mortuary for autopsy, and police commenced investigations into the matter.
