On September 5, 2018, Sharon Otieno, a former Rongo University student, was brutally murdered. Her family has been seeking justice ever since.

Speaking at their Magare home village in Homa Bay Town constituency, Sharon's mother, Melida Auma, urged the court to expedite its trial process to enable them to get justice.

'It's exactly a year since I lost my agile daughter and friend (Sharon). Let the judicial process expedited for us to get justice,' Auma said.

Sharon's father, Douglas Otieno, also appealed to Chief Justice David Maraga to ensure the court delivers justice as fast as possible over the death of his daughter.

'I hope the common saying that justice delayed is justice denied would not meet this family. But I'm confident that truth will prevail and killers convicted for eliminating Sharon and her unborn baby,' Otieno said.

Sharon's uncles, Ben Odundo and James Otieno, described her as a person who was dedicated in all what she was doing.

They also called on political and organization leaders who promised to assist Sharon's family to show up and support the education of her children.

Sharon's grandfather, Samuel Odege, said the brutal death of Sharon still lingers in his memory.

'I lost a granddaughter who used to prepare a delicious meal for me. May those who killed her be heavily punished,' Odege said.

Sharon's family has been through a lot since her death, but they remain hopeful that justice will be served.
