On September 4, 2019, Sports Principal Secretary Kirimi Kaberia announced significant changes to address the long-standing issue of delayed payments to sports teams on national duty.
Following the return of the Kenyan contingent to the African Games in Rabat, where they brought glory to the country, Kaberia vowed to put an end to the delays.
"There will be forms to be filled by each government officer in the flow chart and each officer will account for his or her actions," Kaberia told Nation Sport.
He outlined a strict timeline for the payment process, stating that the first approver would have a maximum of one hour to act, while those invoicing would have a maximum of 30 minutes to process. The cash office would have five minutes to act, and banking officers would have one hour to transmit payments to athletes' accounts.
"Cumulatively, the entire process should not take more than 48 hours, and I will personally oversee the process, starting with this month's World Championships in Doha," Kaberia said.
He also emphasized the importance of accurate details in athletes' bank accounts and timely submission of requests by federations.
