On September 5, 2019, Dr. Sandra Lee, a dermatologist and TLC host, posted a video on Instagram of herself removing a large sebaceous cyst from a patient's chin.
The cyst, which appeared to be a gumball-sized mass, was likely a sebaceous cyst, a type of cyst caused by blockage of the glands that produce oil for the hair and skin.
As Dr. Lee squeezed out the cyst's contents, a multi-colored mixture of pus flowed out, ranging from yellow to red to pink.
Sebaceous cysts are noncancerous and can grow into large, unsightly masses if left untreated. They are caused by damage or blockage to the ducts of the sebaceous gland, which produces oil for the hair and skin.
According to the Mayo Clinic, sebaceous cysts can be treated by draining their contents, which can help to reduce their size and prevent them from growing into monster blackheads.
