On September 4, 2019, xenophobic attacks in South Africa took a deadly turn when two charred bodies were discovered in a shop in Johannesburg's Alexandra township.
According to local reports, the bodies were found by people scavenging for scrap metal after violence overnight on Monday to Tuesday, during which foreign-owned shops were attacked and torched.
"Yes, it is confirmed that two bodies (were found) in a shop, they were burnt out," said Wayne Minnaar, Johannesburg Metro police spokesman, adding that the circumstances surrounding the discovery were unclear.
