On Wednesday, police officers in Mwea East, Kirinyaga County, arrested a 24-year-old man for cultivating and possessing bhang.

According to reports, the suspect, Jackson Kariuki, had dropped out of the University of Nairobi in his third year.

Police officers, acting on a tip-off from members of the public, raided Kariuki's bhang farm at Difathas Village in Mwea East and uprooted over 500 stems of the plant.

During the raid, the officers also ransacked Kariuki's house and found more rolls of bhang ready for sale.

Notably, Kariuki had mounted a bed on top of a tree in the farm to watch over his marijuana.

He was detained at Wang'uru Police Station and is expected to be arraigned on Thursday.
