On September 4, 2019, Mombasa Resident Magistrate Ritta Amwai released Hamdi Yussuf Maalim Ibrahim, a general police officer, and her husband Said Mohamed Abdalla on a bond of Sh500,000 each.

The couple was charged with trafficking 268.5 grams of heroin worth Sh805,000 in a rented room in Diani, Kwale County.

State prosecutor Rosemary Nandi had opposed the bond application, claiming that the two were likely to interfere with ongoing investigations pending trial.

However, their lawyer argued that the accused were innocent until proven guilty and police were basing their allegations on sheer speculation.

As part of their bail conditions, the couple was directed to deposit their passports in court.
