On September 4, 2019, Zambia's withdrawal from a planned friendly match against South Africa led to a last-minute change in plans. The Football Association of Zambia (Faz) president Andrew Kamanga cited concerns over player safety as the reason for their withdrawal.

South Africa will now host Madagascar in a hastily arranged friendly match, replacing the original fixture against Zambia in Lusaka.
