Published on September 4, 2019, Julius Malema, leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in South Africa, has spoken out against the recent xenophobic attacks in his country.
Malema, who spoke through a social media platform, stated that Africans are showing their frustration towards foreigners.
He claimed that the wealth in South Africa is held by people who have benefited from the colonial system and have refused to share it with others, with the ruling African National Congress (ANC) party protecting their interests.
Malema also stated that the minority group that is accusing foreigners of taking their jobs is the one that is to blame for the current situation.
He further claimed that white people are the ones who brought the problem and that they should take responsibility for it.
Violence and property damage have been reported in the Gauteng region, where Kenyans have also been affected.
Kenya's ambassador to South Africa has assured the government that Kenyans and their properties are safe, with reports indicating that two Kenyan properties were damaged.
