On September 2, 2019, a horrific incident shook the streets of Kampala when a 21-year-old man, Baker Kasumba, was attacked and 'crucified' by two suspects over his alleged support for the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.
According to eyewitnesses, Kasumba was walking home from work when the attackers, who remain unidentified, drove two six-inch nails into his hands, reportedly for wearing a yellow beret, a common symbol of NRM party activists.
However, Kasumba claims that the attackers joined his hands together, placed his yellow beret in between, and then used a hammer to drive the nails through his hands.
Fortunately, two women who witnessed the incident raised an alarm, compelling the suspects to flee the scene, which is just 30 meters away from a police post.
Kasumba is currently receiving treatment at Mulago National Referral Hospital in Kampala.
