On September 4, 2019, a pastor from the African Inland Church (AIC) was excommunicated after allegations of sexually abusing a 18-year-old girl he was educating and living with in Kapenguria.

The girl, a form four student, had been living with the pastor under the church residence in Kapenguria. She had come from a poor family with no father figure, and the pastor had promised to educate her.

However, the girl's mother discovered that the pastor had been sexually molesting her for a long time. The mother recorded a statement with the police in Kapenguria, and the case was forwarded to the DPP awaiting further legal action.

Upon hearing the news, the church's clergy, led by West Pokot AIC Bishop David Keston, decided to excommunicate the pastor, stating that his actions were shameful and against the church's doctrines of service.

The church also urged the pastor to surrender all church property within 7 days, warning him of dire consequences if he failed to comply. However, the pastor denied the allegations, terming them as false, satanic, and a witch hunt.

Police investigations are ongoing in the matter.
